SnowboardGot a new Capita snowboard (a Seattle brand) with a union binding. Very very pleased with the board this year.

But on the other hand I have a bit of problem finding snowboard gear for men, any suggestions where to go? There is so much more around for women but not for men so I have been struggling a bit with this.

Anyway, at least I have the board fixed, – check it out!

Is there nothing in your current contract that prevents you for snow boarding? I’ve heard how many athletes have a lot of clauses in their contracts that prevent them from a lot of these sorts of activities. How about when you were with Arsenal, could you snow board then?

  2. speedle on November 24, 2009 4:35 pm

Check out Snowboard Connection… One downtown and there might be one in Bellevue too… Make sure you hit Crystal Mountain this winter if you’re in Seattle and stay healthy, man!

  3. speedle on November 24, 2009 4:36 pm

    p.s. That board is badass

  4. Blake Vilders on November 24, 2009 4:44 pm

Come up north to Hidden Wave snowboard shop in Mount Vernon and come ride Baker. We have more snow than anywhere else.

  5. Tony Hill on November 24, 2009 4:47 pm

i was going to say the same thing as speedle snowboard connection its across the street from the REI building.

  6. Roberta King on November 24, 2009 4:53 pm

Sweet board! Try REI, evo (in Fremont), or Snowboard Connection….

    freddie-
    The board is awesome!
Do you need a snow bunny to board with?! j/j ;)
    Try evo in Fremont or…
Northwest board Sports in Tacoma. All my guy friends go to those shops for their board stuff!
    enjoy the powder!

    Freddie

    Love the Union bindings
Check out EVO in Fremont. Ask for Tom, hes a huge sounders fan and Im sure he can hook you up.

Also, be sure to check out Mt Baker.

Hope to see you here next year.

Sturtevants is one of the oldest shops around. They are in Bellevue. http://www.sturtevants.com/ Shouldn’t be hard to find anything in this area to wear. Just make sure to carry chains in the trunk in case they check for them (if you don’t have a 4wd).

  10. Michael Hagerman on November 24, 2009 5:20 pm

Of course you snowboard. You are awesome and all awesome people snowboard :P

Local snow is fairly heavy most of the time but fun never the less. Slick board by the way.

  11. EverydayFan on November 24, 2009 5:53 pm

    Sweet Board!
The best place to Snowboard is Crystal Mountain … Get a guide and tell them you want to hike to the top of The King (they’ll know what you mean).
    That will blow your mind!
PS – Did you like that Sounders cheer at the Cup Final? We were happy to see you!
    Go Sounders!!!

  13. Jon Danforth on November 24, 2009 6:51 pm

Sick board. I’ll echo what another poster said, you gotta hike the King at Crystal (South Back). As well, the North backcountry has a lift servicing it, and you can board freshies all day. Lived in Seattle my whole life, hopefully I run into you on the slopes this winter

  14. Janell Liebel on November 24, 2009 6:54 pm

i am jealous! u should totally come up to stevens with me its much better than any yucky mountain down south but zumies has some stuff… or if ur cheap like me u got to REI they hav everything for any1

  15. Lorenzo Peder on November 24, 2009 7:06 pm

If you want to snowboard some slopes close to Seattle, try Alpental by snoqualamie (45 minutes from seattle). Great backcountry terrain and some of the steepest faces around! Baker gets the most snow but its a much longer drive. Have fun shreddin’

  16. mariaines on November 24, 2009 7:27 pm

Hey, you should come to Chile one day.. there are some GREAT places to do snowboarding and impressive landscapes! have fun with the new board!

  17. Joseph Olson on November 24, 2009 7:33 pm

Hey Freddie, totally off topic here, but thanks for putting up with that ridiculous song the players sang for the season ticket renewal bit. You’re a good sport and I can promise it was as brutal to watch as it probably was to be in. Thanks for wearing the green and rep’ing out city!

  18. PScottC on November 24, 2009 10:49 pm

For you, EVO will be a great find. Njut av snön!

  19. aldrig107 on November 24, 2009 10:53 pm

http://www.dogfunk.com has great gear & if you are going to really rip up the back country off trail might pick up an avalanche beacon. The powder is very tempting at Alpental & agree great verticals – but ski patrol will clip your ticket if they catch you out of bounds. Guides much better. For a really great trip when Whistler gets Olympic crazy hit Schweitzer http://www.schweitzer.com. The best and only a day drive.

  20. Eagle Bear Morgan on November 24, 2009 11:38 pm

Go to REI. You’ll be pleased for sure.

  21. Michael on November 25, 2009 12:10 am

I second the recommendation of EVO.

And although we have a lot of skiing right here, Whistler/Blackcomb is so close and they’re getting record snowfall too. I’ll be there for the Thanksgiving holiday. Have fun!

  22. Sarah Kadish on November 25, 2009 12:31 am

You have to come up to Baker! Crystal’s good but it can’t top Baker’s powder. And it’s been snowing practically non-stop for over a week.

There’s a decent shop up there too, maybe you can find what you’re looking for.

  23. Marlene Högmark on November 25, 2009 5:51 am

Hmm I think it is equally difficult to find cool snowboarding gear for men as it is to find stylish motorcycle clothing for women. Guess you should start to design the gear yourself if you really want to be pleased, and if you’re at it, please do design sleek biker clothes for women as well:)

  24. swenglishcake on November 25, 2009 6:25 am

    Fredde!!!

    sweet board, Freddie.
snowboard connection is great if you’re downtown, or Sturtevants if you’re on the east side. REI always has good stuff too.
You should let my wife and me take you up to Baker. Best boarding mountain around.

  26. jtowner on November 25, 2009 10:46 am

Snowboard Connection in Bellevue moved slightly, it’s on the South side of Main St, 2 blocks East of Bellevue Way. Get some turns in down here and you’ll see why Seattle is perfect – MLS Season ends and Snowboarding begins :D Make sure to check out the different resorts, and if it wasn’t for training, I would expect to see you in Whistler for the Olympics.

Glad to see you got some sun. Thanks for a great year!

  27. Yamileth Diaz on November 25, 2009 10:48 am

Woa! that is a BAMF board! I would suggest EVO in freemont

  28. alison03 on November 25, 2009 12:17 pm

Evo is definitely great. Feathered Friends (near REI downtown) also has a lot of fancy gear. Closer to the water on 3rd there is Columbia and Mountain Hardware too. Good luck in your search for gear!

And by the way, sick board. I picked up a pair of Solomon ski’s last week after 9 years of boarding. Excited to give it a go.

Where are you boarding this year? The NW is great: Crystal is fantastic and while not as nice, Snoqualmie is just a stone’s throw away. Am lucky enough to head to Whistler for the Olympics in a few months too…I heard the mountains will be open to the public then so that is great news!

  29. Jennifer Ronquillo Mars on November 25, 2009 12:46 pm

That is one sexy board! I’m quite impressed – you are slowly evolving into a true Seattleite…

  30. carella211 on November 25, 2009 3:42 pm

yea, if you’re in seattle still, it’s all about snowboard connection.

  31. Jamie Warren on November 25, 2009 8:52 pm

Evo in Fremont is the best place to go -They know their stuff. Also, you really need to check out Crystal, it has way better powder and runs than anywhere else in the area, plus the best Après-ski south of Whistler (though I’d definately recommend hitting Whistler/Blackcombe before the Olympics hits!)

  32. mrsljungberg on November 26, 2009 12:07 pm

Happy Thanksgiving Freddie! Cool board! Be careful :)

  33. Tom on November 26, 2009 5:56 pm

    hej-
I also was surprised you have no contract restrictions on other sports. I had a friend who was a professional baseball player and he had a long list of other sports he was not allowed to do. Hope you enjoy the off season in the Pacific Northwest.

  36. Ryan Sales on November 28, 2009 3:36 pm

If you get a chance head to Mt. Hood. Powder is fresh. Not a close drive like Stevens Pass or Snoqualmie, but worth a trip if you get a chance. Wicked board.
