What an amazing season Rooney is having. Normally I don’t write about specific players, or talk about them in the press, but I have to about Rooney.
Before this season he got criticised for not scoring as much as his potential. He didn’t come with any excuses he just kept working hard for his team. In my opinion, what I think some people didn’t see was that he covered up so much defensively for Ronaldo and did so WITHOUT COMPLAINING. He let his own game suffer for the team!! He played more as a winger than as a striker in my books. Think all his teammates saw that and that gives you respect.
When they sold Ronaldo a lot off people said it was bad. Ronaldo is a great player, don’t get me wrong, but they got loads and loads off money for him and now we can see Rooney play as a proper striker and see how well he is doing it. For me he’s got it all, he is very strong, hard to get the ball off, great shot, good speed and works hard for his team. Lately he has been scoring some great goals with his head as well.
For me he is a role model for kids to look at and learn. Especially the character he showed covering for Ronaldo and not always getting the credit he deserved for it. As an Arsenal man I am not man U’s biggest fan as they’ve been my main rivals for many years but I wanna take my hat off for probably the best player in the world at the moment and the path he has walked to get there.

Jag har alltid varit ett stort fan av dig, men sen du flyttade till USA har de inte uppdaterats så mycket om dig, tyvärr.
Jag såg på aftonbladet att du hade en blogg och var självklart tvungen att gå in på den. Nu har du en till läsare med all säkerhet.
Jag bor också i USA sen 6 månader tillbaka och ett av mina mål är självklart att få se dig spela. Jag har inte sätt dig spela sedan jag var på Sverige – Island matchen 2007, jag har självklart sätt dig på tv men det är ju en helt annan sak.
Jag och en kompis ska köpa biljetter till New York Redbulls matchen den 15 maj. Jag hoppas verkligen att du är med och inte åker på någon skada eller något annat.

yup, gonna have to agree with you there Freddie. I think that as a fan, one is able to understand a player better during those times when he isn’t in the spotlight.
Hope the sounders are eating some humble pie as well, during this CBA conflict and all.

Absolutely wonderful that you recognize a fellow player for the effort he’s put into his craft, even if he plays for a rival of Arsenal on the pitch. I too am very impressed with Rooney, and am glad he’s finally getting the acclaim deserving of someone of his talent.
Im also a gunner, but you have to hand it to Rooney.. Would love to see every player work that hard in every game. thats why im glad Arsenal sold Adebayor. Didnt run for his money

Great post, you are SO right when you reference his character, work ethic and team focus as an example for kids to emulate. As an American we see so much selfish play in the US (in all sports) and to see a true team concept is refreshing, thanks for pointing it out!!
Well, i don’t exactly agree with you..i mean, i do think Rooney is great, he works hard and has very good tactic qualities..but, and maybe because i’m a Barça fan, i always try to see the talent, the art in football. And i can’t imagine another player better than Messi right now. If i wasn’t sure about that last season, i’m pretty sure now.
(no, i’m kidding, i’m terribly nervous, that’s the worst rival we could have got)
