Finally we have played the first game and we won, it feels great. Think we started the game really well and created a lot of chances and maybe should’ve killed off the game before we did. A great team win.
Only negative off the game was their tackles from behind. Just something you don’t do as your opponent has no way off protecting themselves. Thankfully one of their guys got sent off but could’ve been more. I personally got a knee straight in my spine from behind shouldn’t happen that you can knee someone that high up when the ball is 3 yards away on the ground (Straight after the game we went to the ER to get my spine x-rayed as I couldn’t and still cant sit or lay on my back. Luckily no fractures. Only bone bruising. The doctor compared the injury with an NFL injury when someone uses their helmet to crash it into someone’s spine. Hopefully ill recover quickly). Then Montero got a similar one and then the guy was off. You just have to trust that the ref is doing their job and you just try to do yours. Have sometimes been very critical of the refs not doing anything about over violent play that can injur your opponent but I think the ref did a great job last night.
For me after the tackle on me my evening was over, tried to stay on to help the team until I thought the game was over in around the 60th min. During that time I couldn’t run but tried to use my experience to help the guys on the pitch. Something me and Siggi discussed at halftime.
Was great to see Fucito out there in the second half. He has really improved and looked great in pre season. Proves that if you work hard you get your chances. He has a great left foot look out for that.
You fans were absolutely amazing was nice to see and hear you guys again. Despite the heavy rain you were there in numbers and were very loud.
Thanks for the support.

Been in training camp in Arizona for a week now. We have been running our asses off and we are all a bit tired, but no pain no gain.
Started thinking about the five best football stadiums I ever played at and came up with my personal “top 5″ list that I wanted to share with you.
Well said Freddie.
It was good to see you and the boys on the pitch last Thursday despite the heavy sheets of rain. Very excited for Sounders v Red Bulls next Sat.
Get some R&R – watch some Arsenal tomorrow – and stay classy.
Cheers,
Jen
Great game Freddie. Really appreciate your leadership on the field. Excited to see what will happen this season. God Bless!
Congratulations on the amazing win, Freddie! What a great way to start the Sounders season. I’m still celebrating the win. We’ll be out there in rain, hail, sleet and snow to support you guys. Please rest and get better. Very grateful that you aren’t seriously hurt, and hope that the refs continue to crack down on those who commit such dangerous tackles. Sad to see a new team make that kind of first impression.
See you on the pitch on Saturday, April 3!
Way to step up, Freddie.
We watched you last night.
You played a beautiful game.
I agree the ref did a good job. That style of play from Philly was a disgrace to the game.
Get well soon.
We will see you next Saturday!
Get better for next Saturday!
What a great win! Fun to watch. It was scary to see what happened to you. Hope your back heals soon. Krya på dig!!! //Juliana
Always there to support you Freddie!
Thanks for the enjoyable and definitely get some R&R. Thanks for all the hard work!
Bring on NY! Noticed you couldnt take the corner kicks either after the dirty hit. Look forward to having all the starters back in the lineup. Montero, Zakuani, and Alonso stood out. Look forward to more Fucito and Nyassi causing havoc as subs
The team looked good out there, glad to see the season underway. Good luck this season Freddie!
great game Freddie!
Best wishes on a quick and full recovery.
Great game Freddie. Looked like there was a little more room for passing in the final third, looks good. Hope you recover quickly we need you. Arsenal just scored against Birmingham to go up 1-0!!!!!!!!!
good start freddie!! =)
I got an up close view of that tackle and it looked incredibly painful. We were worried about you after that. I’m glad it wasn’t more serious, rest and feel better. It was great to see you all back on the field and you played a great game. Your leadership on the field was huge and I’m excited to see what else you can bring us this year.
Cheers

Freddie: What a great start to what is going to be a terrific season.
MLS needs to clean up the challenges from behind.
Those were some ugly tackles. Nyassi took a really scary one too. Glad it’s nothing too serious. You looked to be midseason form prior to the assault.
Awesome game. It is unfortunate to see you injured, especially when the Union coach is off running his mouth and questioning your honesty. Keep playing great soccer! We love having you in Seattle
Great to see you on Twitter and Blog, keep the information coming, we’re lapping it up. Definitely get some R&R, we’re looking forward to the Red Bulls next week.
Rain may have dampened heads, but it certainly didn’t dampen our hearts – GO SOUNDERS!
Those tackles made me cringe! It doesn’t bode well when the captain gets carded in the first 33 seconds! And to hear people say that you were exaggerating… it was so obvious that wasn’t the case… I guess when you tough out being hurt, people assume you were faking. Good Job in the game!
After reading the comment below, nothing more to add other than “I love you Freddie”. Hahahaha! You are the BEST & it is nice of you to mention Fucito in such a positive manner. You are a cool team player
Typo, I mean “comments above”
Apparently you did (another) great game, and, as usual, when the other team hasn’t got the skills to stop you they become violent… Hope you’ll recover soon! By they way HBK could do with a helping hand, so could our NT…
We were concerned about you. It looked bad when you went down. Hope it heals rapidly and you are comfortable soon.
We love watching you out there. Your presence settles the team into a nice rhythm. So happy you are a Sounder!
I just love you Freddy!!! Get better for Saturday… we need you! Take Care of you…

Great game Freddie!
Any thoughts on the acquisition of Blaise?
Here’s a good photo sequence of it:

That looked like it could have been really bad. I hate to ask, but at what point should it be referred to the MLS Disciplinary Committee?
You and the rest of the team did great. It was fun watching.
still can’t sit or lay on your back?
jeez, what I don’t understand is how you could keep playing after that!!
wish you a full recovery
Get well soon, Freddie. The team isn’t the same without you.

Fantastic start. I thought you showed great poise. Something Nowak needs to learn. Great work setting up Evans goal.
Congrat´s on the win and hope that your back is going to get better soon!
Freddie, Its good to see everyone back and giving 110%!!! I also have to agree that it was nice to see Fucito out there, and I’m glad you recognize his efforts!! Hope to see him out there more this year. Rest up well, and see you Saturday! (Hopefully the rain holds off too….. Can’t complain though, it is the Seattle Sunshine!)
