Motta Inter

Been two big nights of football. The Champions Leagues semi finals. What every player is looking forward to. It very hard to come this far. So what happened in the games are sad. First Lyon vs Bayern. Criss gets sent off for clapping his hands at a yellow card he didn’t agree on. In my opinion this is not a stage of the competition where referees are suppose to make statements for small petty things. Let the players play. Thats what everyone want to see. If the referee feels offended or whatever he felt, talk to Criss that if he does it again he will get a second yellow and sent off or bring it up after the game with the referees representatives for next years competition but don’t kill the game for something like that.

Then we have the Barcelona-Inter sending off. Everyone that has played the game at a decent level knows that when you are being followed by another player from behind in the middle of the park you are thought to put out your hand behind you to feel where the opponent is! There is a MASSIVE difference from putting out your hand to hitting out an elbow!!! To me that the referee sends him of on his second yellow or not the referee needs to have a feeling for the game. Motta was only feeling what he had behind him with his hand unfortunately he connected with his face but with no power at all. If you wanna give a free kick for hand in face do that but don’t send someone off. That happens so many times in a game (a small reflection, I’m short 176cm. When I feel behind me I normally feel the stomach or chest of my opponent but players that are taller still must be allowed to feel with their hand behind them as long as the don’t hit out with it). In my book you just don’t send someone off for that in a semifinal. To much on stake to make a mistake like that. Referee probably thought it was an elbow but if you don’t see it you can’t do what he did. After that the game was dead to me. Wanted to see these two great teams battle it out now it just became a tactical game. Felt sorry for Inter and Motta but mostly for all football fans in the world. Everybody was looking forward to two of the best teams in the world to clash heads and see some great football from two different football schools.

My motto is let the players decide who will win. Not the referee! If there is bad tackle etc send player off but not for petty silly things like this. But that’s just my opinion. Lets now look forward to the final and hope it’s gonna be a great one.

On end note I would like to say Mourino is probably the best tactician in the world!!! Whatever we think about how Inter played they were absolutely amazing defensively. Barcelona away is probably the hardest place to play in the world. He has done it with Chelsea and now with Inter.

Freddie, I agree with the second statement regarding Motto’s sending off last night, and didn’t see the Criss sending off in the Lyon game but at what point to referee’s continue to be disrespected? If the players want to play the game, then accept the referee’s decision and get on with it, all the years I’ve played I’ve never seen a referee change a call based on a player complaining, so why bother. I know emotions would be running high in games like this, but that is why they are professionals and they need to be able to control their emotions.

Side note, who is your money on for the final? I’m thinking Inter might pull this one off.

I agree, Morinho is great. I like those guys who’s heart beats for football, like Wenger. Ferguson, Morinho, and so on. What if Inter wins the CL, where will Morinho go next time? Portugal NT? Maybe one day we will see you as one of those guys with great personalities skills and knowledge who attract even more people to football?!

in that you have much reason ….. “The players decide who will win … the arbitrators do not !!!!” .. I love (by the way I take the motto to post on the facebook that I have dedicated) … This leads me to recall the end of champions, Arsenal and Barcelona in 2006 … when according to the arbitrators, Jens Lehmann fouled Samuel Eto’o … (Samuel Eto’o was offside), which then would cause the expulsion of Lehmann and “sacrifice” to Robert Pires Almunia to enter … Thierry Henry then we will declare that I have been attacked and beaten by players “cules” and the referee did not whistle anything ……… Arsenal trailed … ! was a disastrous final at Saint-Denis …. !! ….

PS: Place this summary to support your comment …. and often …. “errors” of the arbitrators are final or in important games ….!!

    Saludos y besos desde Venezuela….!!!

A huge disappointment for football fans, as you said. The first leg of Barça vs. Inter, played in Milan, was the most beautiful football this Seattle yank has ever seen. I was truly amazed. Weds night had flashes of that brilliant control at the start, but soon gave way to the absurdness we often see in professional sports these days.
A superb job in goal for Cesar, during which he deflected a Messi screamer heading for the back corner. And if you watched it til the end, you would have almost seen echoes of last years Barça vs Chelsea in this same semi final match when an injury time goal would have given Barça another miracle win, only to have been ruled offside this time.

Great post and an even greater restraint to not call out Busquets on his dive. I will do it for you; as much as the referee is at fault for mistakenly sending off Motta, Busquets’ acting was disgraceful. I feel he knew what he was doing; knowing that Motta was already on a yellow. Im glad Barcelona lost, hopefully Busquets gets suspended for his actions.

I see refs made a bad decisions all the time..I remember how Arsenal ended at 49 unbeaten due to Mike Riley’s horrible judgement..I remember Ferdinand bad tackle that stopped you from getting through to the panalty area.. and he should’ve got red card..you strip so hard but ferdinand got away with it!

got beaten like that to ManU and stop at 49th is a terrible feelings that has been haunting me for years..

I ended up hate Mike Riley and kept thinking what if there was another ref in charge.

I mean..I totally agree that players decide who will win, not the referee.

I miss you in Arsenal jersey so much. but im glad you’re happy now.

    Happy Belated Birthday Freddie! :)
you’ll always be my favorite player for all time.

Freddie, I think I’d be happy to get some of those referees here in the US. Saturday night was proof positive. It seems like every time we get that guy he’s on the verge of losing control of the game.

You, however, were PHENOMENAL Saturday night!!! You gave everything on the pitch. It was crushing for it to end the way it did.

By the way, I got a good shot of the knee you took against Philadelphia at First Kick. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ccw1220/4576724781/

I think that Criss should have been more intelligent about his actions. The precedent has been set by many referees. Yellow cards have been awarded for sarcastic clapping to many players. It is a form of dissent which is a yellow card offense. The player should have thought about his actions.
Motta’s red is a little bit tougher. I agree with you that it shouldn’t have been a red card considering the force of the contact. In my opinion though his arm is up at an unnatural height. You do put your arm out to feel for the player but a taller player should be aware of the danger of bringing his hand out that high.

Yes the decisions were slightly harsh but the players should have been smarter with their actions. What do you think?
