Sorry to see you leave us in Seattle Freddie, but I understand that players sometimes need to make changes. We will always remember your contributions to our first season and I will continue to wear your jersey with pride.

  3. David Abraham on August 9, 2010 2:07 pm

We are lucky to have you here in Chicago. Welcome. Great atmosphere at the stadium last night even if we didn’t see a goal.

I kept telling my sons to watch how hard you work showing for the ball. You have to be in the stadium to appreciate that. Also how you aren’t afraid to challenge the defense.

The Fire have been lacking a player with these traits since Peter Novack left.

  4. Julie-Ann Neywick on August 9, 2010 3:22 pm

Great game last nite!!! Nice to see you smile on the pitch and to play such good soccer!!!

Will be at the game on the 18th against New England… looking forward to seeing you on the field!!!

  6. bluestskies on August 9, 2010 4:38 pm

Watched your match and then the Sounders match back to back last night. You were incredible and boy, it sure did make me miss you here in Seattle. Your hustle was insane and everyone that was in the room with me (non soccer fans) were like “Look at that guy beat everyone down the field!!” Brought back a lot of memories and I can’t wait to root for you on the 28th!!

  7. Warren Olaya on August 9, 2010 4:39 pm

welcome to Chicago man! Comin’ out to see you at the next home game hopefully!

Thank you Freddie, for coming over and signing autographs and taking photos with us after the match. Welcome to Chicago, and all the best with the Fire….

Was excited to see game. You looked magnificent; unbridled, unadulturated movement and athleticism. This is gonna be good.

We miss you in Seattle Freddie! Can’t wait for you to play Us. I will root for you when you do! Good luck in Chicago :D and I too will wear your jersey with pride to every sounders game.

  12. Radiogonzo on August 11, 2010 12:08 am

Hey Freddy, awesome first home game!
You could definitely have had 2 assists in that game if things had worked out a little differently.

The best moment of that game, and perhaps of the season, was your defensive run tracking back all the way across the half-line culminating in a beautiful and perfect sliding tackle for which you were penalized.

I was right there, man, and it was no foul. It was a beautiful play. It was like Wayne Rooney but you worked harder. If we can ever get you, Nery, Collins, Patrick and Marco on the field at one time, we can win the cup.

  14. Logan on August 11, 2010 7:35 pm

Welcome, Freddie! Good to see ya here in Chicago. Get that ball to John, McBride, or Nyarko and the Fire will definitely be in the playoffs this season. And take some shots yrself! Good luck. I’m looking forward to a MLS Cup in Chicago this year.

  15. Logan on August 11, 2010 7:37 pm

oh yeah, get the ball to Castillo, too. Too many new additions to teams and the league! But great additions.

  16. Accounting Girl on August 13, 2010 1:46 am

I’m glad you’re having a good time in Chicago. I can’t wait to see you play here in Seattle again on the 28th. I’ll be cheering for a Sounder win, but I won’t be very sad if you score a goal against us. Funny thing…your picture is on the season ticket for that game against Chicago. Don’t know if you knew or not, but I thought it was a little ironic.

  17. Gunilla Ebers on August 14, 2010 7:54 pm

Happy I was away and didn’t buy tickets to the Sounders game here in the San Francisco against the Earthquakes. The only reason being to see you play in person…
Not sure if you ever come out this way with Chicago – don’t think so, but will have to look in to it.
Good luck! From one Swede to another!

  18. WallingfordWarhorse on August 16, 2010 11:40 pm

    Cheers to you Freddie!!!!!!!!!!

Love your insane lively instinct on the pitch … Cheers to the Pit Bull / Warhorse / Fierce Fighting Freddie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On a serious and grateful note … thanks x 10 to everything you’ve done for Seattle and the MLS!

Hope you have a wild charge into the playoffs!!!!!!!!!!

    Peace to you Freddie!

  19. jungiangreen on August 23, 2010 10:40 am

Good luck this Saturday Freddie! We’ll be cheering for you to do well…but for Seattle to come out on top :)

Please don’t take any offense to that and could you please stick around to sign some autographs for us near the players tunnel? It’s my friend’s birthday and she just adores you haha

  20. jungiangreen on August 25, 2010 4:35 am

“Please don’t take any offense to that and could you please stick around to sign some autographs for us near the players tunnel?”

Or just one picture, even! We fully expect you to get a majority of cheers for your return to Seattle but do apologize in advance if you hear any boos from the crowd. What you did for this city was just amazing. Thank you!

  21. Fatima Freeman on August 25, 2010 3:44 pm

    Hey,
I am very happy that you are been welcomed in Chicago.

  22. Gunner4Life on August 27, 2010 6:44 am

    Freddie,

Welcome back to Seattle. Tomorrow is going to be a very difficult day for many of us. We miss you a ton. While the Sounders are forever my team and I will be hoping for a positive result for them, I will be wearing my Arsenal jersey in quiet support of you. You meant a lot to us, and many of us are still left scratching our heads as to why things broke down. You legitimized the team and are the reason that many of us became season ticket holders in the first place. Please do not teach Schmid too many lessons on the pitch tomorrow night.

  23. weller12 on August 28, 2010 10:05 pm

    Freddie,
I just wanted to say sorry for the way some of the Seattle fans treated you tonight. I was ashamed to have a sounders jersey on. You deserve more respect than that. And then to see Montero hack you like that…what a joke. You are on a level of class high above anyone else on the sounders team. I was very sad to see you go, but now I’m glad you found a better place. I hope you have an amazing rest of the year. Just so you know, I’m selling the rest of my season tickets, and will not renew them. It was a poor showing and a low-class attitude from the sounders fans that have made me realize what a joke the sounders really are.

  24. Julie-Ann Neywick on August 28, 2010 10:37 pm

Sorry about the loss tonite. It should not have happened. You and your teammates played a good game. And you are so right about taking the high road. I am sad how you were treated in Qwest and online tonite, but one must consider the source. Glad you are in Chicago.

    Sköt om dig!

  25. bluestskies on August 28, 2010 10:55 pm

Completely embarrassed to call myself a Sounders fan tonight. I understand the passion but booing was out of line. Glad to see the applause you received after the match and always the gentleman, I smiled seeing you applauding back, signing autographs, and greeting your fans.

  26. Facebook User on August 28, 2010 11:34 pm

Freddie, it was a shame to hear you booed tonight. You deserve better treatment than that. As the season has gone on I’ve felt like the fans are rapidly becoming hooligans. Tonight was almost too much. For the year and a half you were here you left it all on the field, and we were a better team because of it. Tonight, the fans cheapened what you, the team, and the fans worked so hard to build. Even if the other 36,000 fans in the stadium don’t, I miss you Freddie.

  27. Shayna Gosney on August 29, 2010 1:22 am

    Freddie,
I don’t know how to express how horrible I feel to have seen such an ignorant debacle tonight. I’m embarrassed and quite frankly hurt to see such abuse directed toward someone who was so invested in and grateful for the team, the city, and the fans. You deserve so much better. It was almost worse because you still applauded the fans at every opportunity- nobody in that stadium deserves your respect or acknowledgment. I hope you enjoy the Fire, I hope you do incredibly well, and I hope you are able to continue your career as long as possible. You are pure class, just pure class. I adore you and I wish you more than the best.

  28. soundersporvida on August 29, 2010 1:23 am

Just got home from Sounders vs. Fire, and I really gotta say that our fans here in Seattle are embarrassing. With the exception of the fans w/ Swedish flags and your Sounders jersey and the fabulous people who made the “FL#10: RESPECT” sign, the majority of Sounders fans tonight were complete assholes to you. I was quite shocked actually. My friend and I were cheering for you every time you got the ball and ready to talk a ton of s#@t to anyone who had a problem with it. Honestly I was really hoping you’d score on us. Sorry that your return to Seattle wasn’t a pleasant one. Like I said, I’m embarrassed that our fans treated you that way. Was hoping you’d make your way around the stadium like you used to at the end of the game because fans like me have a lot of respect and admiration for you and always will. Thank you for all you’ve done for the Sounders and for leading us to such an impressive season last year.

  29. soundersporvida on August 29, 2010 1:33 am

Seems like EMBARRASSMENT is the key word from your fans in Seattle tonight. There are a lot of know-nothing-about-soccer type of idiots out there. Bringing in Nkufu was a dumb move and Montero has pissed me off since early on last season. People were hating on Brad Evans earlier this season for being a “bad shooter”, but what they don’t realize is his shot on goal percentage is about what Montero’s is….Montero’s 86 shots last season were full of wasted opportunities. A forward should not be shooting at 34% on target.
Also, I did email the Sounders suggesting to give the “Golden Scarf” to you. The concept is pretty lame, but you deserve a ton of love from this city and I’m sad that 98% of them were complete traitors to you.

  30. bidii on August 29, 2010 9:11 am

When you were warming up, I just kept looking at you in white thinking “this is wrong.” As others have posted already, I was shocked about the booing, not at all what I had expected and anticipated. While it may have been loud, there were so many around me that were not following suit so I just have to believe that it was the same in other sections. We thought you’d make it around the stadium so we could give you our long awaited cheers and claps, but that’s okay Freddie, you already know there are many Sounders fans that loved seeing you on the pitch tonight.

  31. a4scott on August 29, 2010 1:14 pm

I boo’d every time Freddie touched the ball last night. Yes he’s been a great asset to Seattle and helped us get established in MLS and the world as a place for football. However, he’s no longer a Sounder and was playing against the Sounders, so he got boo’d. As long as whatever team Freddie is on is not competing against the Sounders, then I’ll have a cheer for him.

Don’t be too “embarrassed” by Seattle fans booing a great player on a team competing against us. It’s sports and I’m sure Freddie can understand fans supporting him and hating him at the same time.

  32. Phil Anesini on August 29, 2010 8:52 pm

Sad, ashamed- stop it already! Why was he booed? Because we loved the guy so much (Skill, knowledge of the game, leadership, teamwork, hustle, etc….) and we felt BURNT when it didn’t work out… How could something that worked so well the first season turn sour the second? We were booing the situation. Freddie gets it! He’ll always be welcomed in this city, just not on the pitch, when he is facing our Sounders….. Best of luck Feddie!

    Hi Freddie

I have been a fan of yours since you played for Arsenal. Your first debut game against Man U and you scored. Your red hair and flair was just a drem to watch. So gutted you do not play for us anymore, more difficult for me to folloow your carreer.

Keep well and play with your heart as you did at arsenal.

Good Luck at Celtic Freddie, not sure green & white is your colour. Hope to see you in the premiership again.

  59. Jack Djokovic on January 28, 2011 5:33 pm

Let’s be honest about Frederik for a moment, people. He’s really a quite appalling player, living off a good streak of form at the end of the 2001/02 season for Arsenal, where he basically rescued them for a collapse and scored about 8 vital goals between February and May. He stunk the place out for the next 5 years and it was really no surprise to see him move to West Ham on a free transfer. He’s played for 4 clubs in the past 3 years and I wonder why.

I can’t think of another player that’s managed to con the entire world into thinking that he’s good based on 2 or 3 months of good form and fair play to Freddie for making a career out of it, but let’s be honest, when you look as good as Freddie and you have a manager as pervy as Arsene Wenger, you don’t need to be that good to get into the first team. Just ask Jose Antonio Reyes.

I really wish you’d retire with a bit of grace, Freddie, and maybe then the memories of your really very dreadul football skills will wilt away from my brain and die.

  60. McAlasdair Sharon Johnson on February 6, 2011 1:54 pm

Maybe you didn’t see Ljungberg play his Swedish ass off in Seattle, Jack, and help shape the way the Sounders and Chicago Fire played, and no one is ever hired arbitrarily by Celtic FC. It would seem to be his magnetism that bothers some people but I dont’t think he does it on purpose.

  61. Accounting Girl on March 6, 2011 4:14 pm

Jack Morningstar, Freddie is not appalling, you are.

  62. McAlasdair Sharon Johnson on April 7, 2011 2:32 am

Really good to see you play Hibernian today, Freddie. I admire your proactivity in creating change in your life and career and returning to Europe. They are lucky to have you. The Sounders v Fire game is coming up here in Seattle. When you played last year my reaction was to laugh everytime you made a move on the pitch and 36,000 people booed in fear of your expertise. Good Luck with Celtic.
